New Southern Crossing Project Manager Seizing the Chance to Make a Difference

An opportunity.

That’s what Brent Compton saw when he looked at the transformation underway at Southern Crossing. Compton saw it as an opportunity to make a positive impact on our community. So he volunteered to become Southern Crossing’s new project manager.

Compton has spent more than 20 years in residential construction, including experience at Southernwood as well as his own Compton Custom Homes. He knows what it takes to complete the job, so that Southern Crossing can fulfill its mission to provide supportive housing, career and life skills training, and a fresh start to those who need it most.

“There are folks out there working hard to get ahead and need a little help,” he said. “This is one way that I can assist.”

In his new role, Compton schedules, manages and oversees all construction at Southern Crossing. The renovations have come a long way, but much is left to be done. Work continues on both the interiors and exteriors of the buildings. Insulation and drywall have to be completed, and site utilities must be installed.

Compton’s role is to ensure it all goes smoothly and on schedule, so that Southern Crossing can soon welcome its first residents.

When we began, it was an abandoned motel, little more than an eyesore along the southbound lanes of US-301.

Once complete, Southern Crossing will provide help, hope and home –– fulfilling the promise of transformation for those in our community who simply need a hand up to lift them to a place of stability.

It is great to see so many familiar, and new faces, coming together to make this dream a reality,” Compton said. “The amount of heart and soul that is being put into this project makes you want to do more.”
